Around the end of 1958, Agostino, called by his friends Og, is looking at a gun in a shop window. he has been thinking about suicide for some time.
He is 35 years old, has no job and no family, feels lonely and depressed. He lost his home, in ten years of marriage he has accumulated many debts.
His way of dealing with difficulties is to drink alcohol. Every day, he goes to the bar to drink and forget the situation in which he lives. All he has left is an old car, with $ 50 in his pocket.
Og, is convinced that his problems will end only with his death. At that moment, the memories of his childhood return to his mind. As a child he wanted to become a successful writer. His mother has always supported him, until one day a heart attack interrupted his life.
The spokesman he had taken as a journalist had not brought good results and with some bad decisions he had contracted a deep debt. Her marriage had failed.
That's why in front of that window, Og considered the idea of suicide. Perhaps out of fear, perhaps out of sudden inspiration, he decided to continue walking until he reached the entrance of a library.
OG Mandino and his new life
He decides to enter and was very impressed with the self-help books. Og understands that something was changing, as if a new awareness was starting to penetrate his mind and heart. He decides to go to the library every day to read as much as possible, then he spends the following months studying everything he finds to improve his life.
Those books change it profoundly. He decides to sell insurance policies for the company of Clement Stone, one of the authors who inspired Og above all, on his afternoons in the library.
The company is committed to giving him a job and Og returns the trust by doing a great job. His mentality had completely changed, he had stopped crying about himself and was now busier than the others.
To satisfy his desire to explain the strategies he learned to other people, Og started writing motivational brochures. One of these little motivational books made it to the executive office and his superiors called him to run an internal company newspaper.
After a few years, the newspaper becomes national. Og's articles and motivational stories attract the interest of a publishing house, which contacts him to write a book. It is the dream of a lifetime. Og writes his masterpiece "The Greatest Seller in the World", a bestseller that has sold over 30 million copies worldwide.
Og Mandino, died rich in 1996 after fulfilling and surpassing his biggest dreams. So the man who was thinking of committing suicide inspired millions of people around the world to improve their lives.
These are some of the most famous sentences he wrote in his books.
